The mission of the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is to reduce the cost of energy in Alaska.
Much of the data accessible from the Alaska Energy Data Inventory comes from the achievements of the Renewable Energy Fund (REF).
The Renewable Energy Fund was established by the Alaska State Legislature in 2008, and extended 10 years in 2012. The REF is managed by the AEA and provides public funding for the development of qualifying and competitively selected renewable energy projects in Alaska.
The REF provides benefits to Alaskans by assisting communities across the state to reduce and stabilize the cost of energy. The program is designed to produce cost- effective renewable energy for heat and power to benefit Alaskans statewide. The program also creates jobs, uses local energy resources, and keeps money in local economies.
